How's Your Heart?

The human heart is the most important part of a person, for it is the heart that determines what a person does with their mouth, hands, and feet. In other words, the heart acts as a person’s life compass. Proverbs 4:23 states, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” Did you hear that? Our heart determines the course of our lives because it is from our heart that we make our choices…and so it must be guarded, protected, and cared for so that it functions properly and is able to decide on the right courses of action.

Our heart is the most important part of us, and yet, it is often the most neglected part of us. We tend to focus more on our outward appearance than we do on the condition of our heart. We tend to focus on how fit our body looks. We tend to focus on wearing trendy clothes and accessories. We tend to make sure that we have status symbols that tell the world that we are a success…the nice house, the nice car, the nice boat. We are often so preoccupied with our outer life that we neglect our inner life.

How’s your heart? How’s the part of you that is running your life at any given moment?

The Bible teaches that the human heart is the most important part of a person, but it also teaches that only God knows the human heart. Jeremiah 17:9-10 states that, “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives.” These verses express why self evaluating our hearts isn’t sufficient enough to uncover our hearts true condition.  Our hearts our broken in ways we don’t even realize. Besides, trusting our deceitful, desperately wicked heart to say what’s wrong with itself, probably isn’t the wisest move. Only God is able to reveal to us the true condition of our heart.  Only He knows our heart’s hidden faults. And only He can repair our hearts.

Are you allowing God, the only one who fully understands your heart, to reveal and heal its brokenness so that your are led on the right course of life?
